Animal Hope Burgas, Bulgaria

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Animal Hope Burgas is a not-for-profit and no-kill animal rescue shelter located near the coast of eastern Bulgaria. It is run by a woman called Zornitsa, who is also the founder of the shelter. She has the help of one staff member, and some of her family on weekends. Her mission is to save as many abandoned and mistreated dogs and cats as she can and help reduce the stray dog population in Bulgaria through sterilisation.

Zornitsa first got involved in animal welfare and rescue missions in 2010 from having an urge and passion to give stray and abandoned cats and dogs a better life.

In 2016, she officially registered Animal Hope Burgas as a charity. Since then the facilities have has grown in size and quality along with the number of animals it houses. Currently, in November 2023, it looks after approximately 100 dogs and 30 cats.

All the animals in the shelter receive love, food, water, and good veterinary care. When an animal is in a ready state to be adopted, the shelter look to find them loving forever homes both in Bulgaria and abroad in other European countries. Those that do not get the opportunity to be adopted live out the remainder of their lives safely and peacefully at the shelter with care and affection.

We are currently raising money to pay off little Lora the dog's veterinary bills. When we were first called to rescue Lora back in June of 2023, it was because she was hit by a car. We were told her owners went abroad and abandoned her, leaving a few neighbourhood children to keep an eye on her. An X-ray revealed Lora had a broken pelvis, crushed in many places with impact to her sacrum too. She had to be taken to a specialist vet in Varna and undergo an emergency operation. The little lady made it through a 7 hour operation (!) and is starting to walk on her own again. ❤️

The total cost of her operation was 2000 Bulgarian Lev (about £885), of which we still have to pay off 1400lev (~£620). Once we manage to pay off her veterinary bill, we will once again have access to use this specialist vet, which we rely on for complex or emergency cases, and already have a cat awaiting this specialist care.

Such a large sum of money has been difficult to raise alongside our regular financial responsibilities to the animals, and the smaller veterinary bills we often have. As we are a not-for-profit organisation, all money received always goes towards the fundraising cause. We wholeheartedly appreciate any help and donations received. Thank you for your time and help.

You may help Lora by donating via GoFundMe -OR- buy the exclusive designed bandana from the 'Beans & Cooper' online store!

According to @sheknows Spanish & American baby name Lora means ‘Flower’. Hence, we have designed the floral print bandana which symbolizes her name, Lora (In both Yellow & Blue colours) to help her with the veterinary bills.

As we promised, 💯 100% of the proceeds are donated to charities.
